This painting originated from a sketch made during a quiet night. Rather than aiming for a traditional portrait, the image becomes an inquiry—almost a plastic exercise—into presence and the construction of the face as a space for thought.
The process began with a pencil drawing on the MDF. From there, I added semi-transparent layers to gradually model the portrait, allowing them to dry quickly while carefully preserving the color and the forms of the original drawing. Later on, I introduced denser, more impasto layers, until the initial idea of the painting was fully established.
When viewed up close, the painting reveals a rich surface of textures and colors created by these successive layers. Some of the early layers remain partially hidden, while others are still visible to the viewer.
Finally, the background was treated almost like an abstract painting, as were certain areas of the face, giving the work a distinctly contemporary character.

Pintura originada a partir de un boceto realizado durante una noche silenciosa. La imagen no propone un retrato en sentido estricto, sino una indagación, casi un ejercicio plástico, sobre la presencia y la construcción del rostro como espacio de pensamiento.
Durante el proceso pictórico, inicié con el dibujo de lápiz sobre el MDF. Luego empecé a agregar capas semi transparentes para ir modelando el retrato y que secaran de forma rápida, cuidando el color y las formas del dibujo original. Posteriormente, fui agregando capas más densas y empastadas, hasta consolidar la idea original de esta pintura.
Si esta pintura es mirada en detalle, verás que está llena de texturas y colores, debido a las capas sucesivas, donde las primeras están en parte ocultas, en otras partes a vista del espectador.
Finalmente, el fondo lo trabajé como si fuese una pintura abstracta, así como algunas zonas del rostro, otorgándole cierto carácter contemporáneo.
